What is Coconut Matcha Cloud, you might ask? It is a blend of coconut water topped with a creamy matcha cold foam. The combination of earthy matcha and sweet coconut water creates a perfect balance.

This drink is very easy to make with just 5 ingredients. It is the perfect swap for your matcha latte, with something lighter, more refreshing, and hydrating! Plus, it is a fun way to enjoy your matcha with a tropical touch.

What Matcha to Use
Matcha is a Japanese powdered tea made from finely ground green tea leaves. This type of green tea leaves is grown in a special shaded environment, which boosts their chlorophyll content and produces a fine powder that’s a vibrant shade of green. Matcha has a naturally earthy, somewhat grassy flavor, which can vary in intensity depending on the type of matcha powder.
Typically, there are two grades of matcha:
- Ceremonial grade. The highest quality matcha with a vibrant green color, the most caffeine content, and the least amount of bitter flavor. It should be used for drinking.
- Culinary grade. The lower grade of matcha is intended for baking and cooking purposes.
The best matcha to use is ceremonial-grade matcha powder. It’s a higher quality than culinary-grade matcha and will have a better flavor, texture, and color which is best for creamy matcha lattes.
Ingredients You Need
- Coconut water. This is the base of your drink, keeping you refreshed and hydrated! Coconut water is the clear, slightly sweet, and nutty liquid found inside young, immature coconuts. Don’t mistake it with coconut milk.
- Heavy whipping cream. It is the key to creating that rich, creamy consistency of the cold foam. You can also use a vegan version to make this drink completely plant-based.
- Milk. Add a splash of milk to the heavy cream base to keep it from getting too thick. You can also use non-dairy milk
- Matcha powder. Go for a ceremonial grade one with a vibrant green color.
- Ice cubes. This Coconut Matcha Cloud is best served cold with ice cubes.

How to Make Vegan Coconut Matcha Cloud
To make this recipe vegan, use coconut cream or vegan whipping cream to substitute the heavy whipping cream. You can also use any kind of milk to dilute the cream, such as coconut milk, oat milk, or almond milk.
